In the 2019 edition of the Congress of the Portuguese Operational Research Association, EstudIO series will be continued, maintaining its integration during the congress, but with the regular format of the plenary session to give greater emphasis to the work done by the students.

 

What are the conditions to make a presentation in EstudIO?

To be, at the date of the congress, student of 1st or 2nd cycle in one university, to submit an extended abstract and to be selected. Submissions will also be accepted for students who have finished their 1st or 2nd cycle in the academic year 2018/2019.

 

What are the advantages of submitting an extended abstract to EstudIO?

The students selected to make their presentations in EstudIO will be offered the registration in the congress as a Student. This registration includes an annual membership fee of APDIO, offered by APDIO Board, and the abstracts book offered by the Organizing Committee.

The extended abstracts of the selected students will have a special highlight in the book of abstracts of the congress. All participants in the congress will be invited to vote on the best work presented at the EstudIO. In the closing session of the congress will be announced the name of the winner, who will receive a prize sponsored by SISCOG.

 

What is the application and selection process?

1st stage

Until April 22, 2019, you must send an extended abstract in Portuguese or English, with a maximum of two pages, in a pdf file to Tânia Ramos (tania.p.ramos@tecnico.ulisboa.pt). The abstract should be structured as follows:

  1. Problem description;

  2. Relevance of the problem;

  3. Methodology used in the resolution;

  4. Results (optional).

By May 10, 2019, candidates will be informed of the acceptance or non-acceptance of their work to be presented in EstudIO.

Abstracts that are not accepted but fall within the scope of IO2019 may be submitted to the conference and forwarded to the Chair of the Program Committee - Susana Relvas.

2nd stage

Candidates whose papers have been accepted in the first phase must submit, by May 31, 2019:

  • an updated version of the previous abstract, with the same structure, taking into account the comments received at the time of acceptance of the application;

  • an elevator pitch slide that illustrates the contents of the extended summary.

Students in these conditions must register at the congress as "Estudante EstudIO" until May 31, 2019.
